El DeBarge brings 'Rhythm of the Night' and 'Second Chance' to BET Awards 2010

In between Chris Brown's crying fit and Kanye West's volcanic act, the BET Awards felt the rhythm of the night this weekend.

'80s hit maker El DeBarge, who has been out of the spotlight since the early '90s, returned to the stage to perform his hit song "Rhythm of the Night" Sunday evening.

Celebrating the release of his first album in 16 years, DeBarge also sang his new single, the appropriately named title track "Second Chance."

The former lead singer from the Motown family group DeBarge, Eldra Patrick DeBarge reached the peak of his solo fame in 1985.

That year, he released the Billboard-topping hit "Rhythm of the Night" from the album of the same name.

In 1986, DeBarge buoyed his success with the hit song "Who's Johnny," from his self-titled debut solo album. The track was featured in the movie "Short Circuit" and cemented the singer's position among the biggest musical stars of the era.

DeBarge released his last solo album in 1994, "Heart, Mind & Soul," a collaboration with Babyface.

The 49-year-old musician's long-awaited fifth album will be released this September and features songs co-written by big name music veterans such as Terry Lewis, Mishaka and the Avila Brothers.

Dan Forsman leads after two rounds at the Dick's Open

ENDICOTT, N.Y. (ABC 4 Sports) -- Provo resident Dan Forsman shot a 6-under 66 on Saturday and gained a one-shot lead over Brad Bryant after two rounds at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open.

Forsman sits at 12-under and he's lucky to be there alone after Bryant (67) bogeyed the final hole. Russ Cochran (66) and first-round leader Wayne Levi (69) are tied at 10-under.

Bill Glasson (66), Mark Calcavecchia (68), and Nick Price (66)--who is third in the Schwab Cup standings--are another shot back.

Andy Bean, who shot an 8-under 64, the best round of the day and just two shots off his career low, is tied with Loren Roberts (68) at 8-under. Fred Funk (70) is alone at 7-under.

Ken Green, in just his second start in a stroke-play event since an RV crash a year ago resulted in the loss of the lower part of his right leg, shot a 2-over 74. It was the best round in his comeback.

Forsman, who won the Regions Charity Classic in May, one of six top-10s on the season, birdied the first three holes to quickly erase Levi's one-shot lead. He followed that with birdies at Nos. 7 and 8 to reach 11-under at the turn.

Bryant, tied for second with Forsman to start the day, kept pace with the lone eagle of the tournament at the 379-yard, par-4 2nd hole. Bryant's soaring second shot from 80 yards at the dogleg left landed on the green and bounced right into the cup, eliciting a smirk from Bryant and a roar from the gallery.

Bryant matched Forsman with birdies at the 7th and 8th holes and headed for the back nine one shot behind.

Both men birdied Nos. 10 and 12, and Bryant finally drew even at the 215-yard, par-3 14th hole when Forsman drove the rough to the right of the green and couldn't get up and down, missing an 8-foot par putt. It was Forsman's first bogey in a span of 33 holes, but he averted a two-shot swing when Bryant pulled a short putt for birdie.

Bryant escaped trouble at No. 15 with a clutch shot out of a stand of trees after an errant drive and saved par. He got lucky on the final hole when his drive sailed toward the trees that line the right side of the fairway and caromed into the rough. His second shot landed in rough at the back left of the green and he was unable to save par, missing a 12-foot putt.

As Mick Jagger said: Chris Bosh is not waiting on a lady, he's just waiting on LeBron. (Well, he said something like that, it was a long time ago and I was pretty stoned last time I heard that song.)

Chris Bosh admitted on ESPN radio this morning what we all knew already: LeBron eats first at the free agent table. Then others can have the leftovers. (Thanks to the Contra Costa Times for transcribing.)

"Am I waiting on LeBron? Pretty much," Bosh said. "I think everyone has to. I have to as well."

"He's a great player and I would be crazy to think that all the teams that are considering him, they would talk to somebody else first," Bosh said. "I think everybody is going to be going at him first.

"They'll probably call him at 12:01," Bosh added. "Hopefully they'll call me at 12:02."

If LeBron and Dwyane Wade stay home, that is when things get interesting for Bosh. Does he see if Cleveland can work a sign-and-trade to pair him with LeBron? Or do the same thing with Wade in Miami? Or be his own man and pair up with Derrick Rose in Chicago? Bosh instantly makes any of those teams a serious threat. And he could be the one that shifts the balance of power this summer.

City's Bars Get a World Cup Bump

Soccer fans are already gearing up for this afternoon's World Cup map between the USA and Ghana, but the biggest winners in the World Cup may be the places pouring pints for fans. Bars around the city have been cashing in on the quad-annual soccer madness, inspiring even quiet lounges to redesign themselves around the games. Jack Keane of Nevada Smiths told the Post, "If there was no World Cup right now, we would have no business. Literally, there'd be nobody here."
Instead, they've had to hire six bouncers and open five hours earlier than usual to meet demand. Prof. Thom’s in the East Village has had to double their weekly order of beer, and had to order extra cases of Bud Light tall-boys and Jaegermeister. They might need even more, as today's match is supposed to have double the turnout as any so far. Joseph Jacobino of Tonic Sports Bar said, "People will be coming in draped in American flags, the red, white and blue makeup, red, white and blue eye-liner and the Uncle Sam hats."
Alternately, Ghana fans will be decked out in flags or more hardcore Batakari warrior robes. One fan said, "When Ghana score, the beat accelerates. It's like wind from the ocean coming to the shore like a hurricane." Does anything that cool happen when USA scores?

10 of the best cigars

There is no better way for a busy executive to celebrate a successful deal or unwind from boardroom pressure by enjoying favourite pastimes such as watching a game, boating, golfing or fishing - and a cigar makes a great addition when you really kick back and relax. Exec Digital knows selecting the best smoke to suit your lifestyle can be a challenge, so here's our guide to the best celebratory smokes.

1. Gurkha Archive Origin: Honduras Individual Price: £6 approx. This is Gurkha's 20th Anniversary cigar and only 1000 boxes have been made for the world. This labour of love cigar has been in the works for two years, featuring a gorgeous silky Connecticut Maduro wrapper with a superbly-aged Cameroon binder and outstanding tasty Nicaraguan filler. Kaizad Hansotia, the Master of packaging, has done it again with this 92 count rustic wood box featuring fabulous engraving that has made the Gurkha 20th Anniversary a must-have.

2. Gurkha His Majesty Reserve Origin: Honduras Individual Price: £450 approx. The combined cost of every other cigar on this list doesn't touch His Majesty Reserve. There is some justification for the world's most expensive cigar - each box of 20 is uniquely infused with one of the world's finest cognacs, originally sold only to dignitaries all over the world, but now available to all. The amazing aroma as well as the taste of the cigar promises to be unforgettable.

3. Camacho Liberty Origin: Cuba Individual Price: £10 approx. Only 40,000 Camacho Liberty 2009 cigars were made and are currently available on a Cigarsfirst come, first served basis. This latest edition was blended by Christian Eiroa in an attempt to outclass the 2005 Liberty, touted as the best Camacho Liberty to date. This particular issue is being offered with much anticipation as they were made in October 2007 using their one and only crop of Habano, a seed that has not been grown since and only yielded enough for a small amount of cigars. The blend is rich and complex and the body is medium to full. With this kind of flavour, strength is secondary.

4. Padron Serie 1926 80 years Maduro Origin: Nicaragua Individual Price: £20 approx. This incredible cigar commemorates the birth year of the company's founder; Jose Orlando Padron. The company uncovered some of its oldest barrels of tobacco leaves for this special stick.

5. Casa Magna Colorado Robusto Origin: Nicaragua Individual Price: £3 approx. As far as high quality cigars go, there hasn't been any cigar in recent years that touches the Colorado's price tag. This cigar has been found at the top of numerous prestigious annual cigar lists, and when you combine the cost, there is no competition.

6. La Floror Domominicana Double Ligeroeroero Chisel Origin: Dominican Republic Individual Price: £4.50 approx. Warning: only indulge after a very heavy meal. This is considered by many to be the strongest cigar made in the Dominican. Full-flavoured and full-bodied, this is no beginner's stick.

7. Cohiba Exquisitotos Origin: Cuba Individual Price: £8 approx. Cohiba makes many cigars that could have made this list, but the Exquisito happens to be Emilia Tamayo's personal favourite. She is the first female to manage a cigar factory in Cuba, and smokes two of these thin sticks a day.

8. MonteCristo Conneticut Corona Origin: Dominican Republic Individual Price: £6 approx. The Corona is Exec Digital's recommendation for anyone just beginning to smoke cigars. Montecristo is a renowned premium cigar brand, but the Corona is very mild. Beginners will love the rich flavour and the reasonable price.

9. CAO America Origin: United States (sort of) Individual Price: £4 approx. This cigar comes in a red, white and blue wrapper and actually uses some American grown tobacco as filler. Basically the only quality cigar you can find that does that, so if you are American and looking for a good patriotic smoke, this is your only choice.

10. Mr. B Lonsdale Maduro Origin: Nicaragua Individual Price: £0.50 approx. This is the best cigar for anyone tightening their belt during the recession. The rustic looking Longsdale is an incredible value for an everyday smoke. Great for someone that is starting out cigar smoking on a budget.

Mother and Child" will bond with audiences

"Mother and Child" arrives with no hype or big advertising campaign behind it like the rest of this summer's offerings, but it just might be the best film released through the first half of the year. What started out as just another indie drama, sad characters in sad situations, quickly took another direction to become one of the most touching films of 2010. Director Rodrigo Garcia Barcha brings this film to the screen with the help of director turned producer Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu ("Babel", "Amores Perros").

The film has three separate storylines that deal with the relationships between a mother and her child, but much like Inarritu's films they end up interweaving with each other at some point. Karen (Annette Bening) gave up her child for adoption several decades ago and with it a piece of her metaphorical heart. Elizabeth (Naomi Watts) is an adopted child and a very successful independent, childless woman. Lucy (Kerry Washington) and her husband are not able to conceive of their own child so they are desperately trying to adopt one.

Plot seems simple enough and for the most part it is and there is a little predictability to it. However, the complex characters do not match the film's simplistic plot. Each one of the female leads is fully developed with their own personalities and maternal issues. These are real people; therefore the viewer can easily make an emotional connection with each of the characters and becomes invested in their lives. Although I did find Bening's storyline a little boring; she whined and cried the whole time.

Even though Barcha takes director's credit Inarritu's fingerprints are all over it. The plot is very much in the vein of his previous films such as "21 Grams." Everything about the film oozes Inarritu. The direction and acting are top-notch. Everyone turns in a fantastic performance. Watts is always good and Bening shows she still has something left. Samuel L. Jackson goes against his recent typecast, which is always refreshing to see, successfully playing a fatherly, more sedated role to great success. Then there is Kerry Washington who is, for the most part, is an unknown. Having only starred in films such as "The Fantastic Four" or "Lakeview Terrace" the spotlight on her talent has shown dim, but in this film it shines bright. Washington has made a statement with her performance that she is a talent to be reckoned with.

"Mother and Child" is a very touching and beautiful film that deals with heavy subject matter, but does not leave the viewer depressed when the credits begin to role. On the contrary, you walk out with a renewed faith in the bond, not only between a parent and child, but in humanity in general; a hidden gem of a film. This is quite possibly the best film of the year. Unfortunately, it will be lost to mainstream audiences.

His name is Lonesome George and he was first discovered in 1972 on Pinta Island. The unusual tortoise was brought to Charles Darwin Research Station. Lonesome George is the last one of his kind Geochelone elephantopus abingdoni. The researchers tried to find tortoise George a female, so he could have a companion but none was found. That’s why George became Lonesome George, the last La Pinta Tortoise. The scientists from the Charles Darwin Research Station have posted rewards of $10,000 for the person who finds a female of La Pinta Tortoise.

So in order for George to have a female to reproduce, the biologists brought female tortoises of Isabela Island, a tortoise specie genetically similar to the La Pinta Tortoise. But George showed little to none interest in the females. He is a symbol of the Galapagos National Park, at the same time becoming one of the world’s most famous reptile.

The first record of a La Pinta Tortoise was in 1906 when a group of scientists from the Californian Academy of Science visited the Galapagos Islands. This tortoise specie has become rapidly known as the most rare animal in the world and one of the Giant Galapagos tortoises a man have ever seen.

Although there were collected other three tortoise males from the Pinta Island, the researchers could not find a female to help this specie survive. Of course, there is a chance that there are other members of this specie in the wild, because these tortoises are shy and secretive and when they’re young they’re very small.

But if there aren’t any other La Pinta Tortoises in the wild, then the specie could die with Lonesome George.

Pinta Island (also known as Abingdon Island, after the Earl of Abingdon) is an island situated in the Galapagos Islands group, Ecuador. It has an area of 60 km² and a maximum altitude of 777 meters.

Uruguay vs South Korea: Match Highlights

Uruguay vs South Korea highlights are available.Uruguay vs South Korea was a good game.I didn’t see the match live so I watch Uruguay vs South Korea highlights now.Uruguay is the first team to get the pass to the quarterfinals of the World Cup thanks to two goals from Luis Suarez against South Korea.

Ph.D. Luis Suarez was tall center forward globally in the first round match of World Cup final.
‘9 ‘Of Uruguay made the two goals of your choice in a tough match against South Korea, which sold face defeat. I liked Uruguay vs South Korea.

Those of Tabarez go ahead in the World Cup but his play in this match left doubts.
Under heavy rain, the Uruguayans went ahead early with a goal of the Ajax striker Luis Suarez, his second goal in the tournament. Uruguay vs South Korea ended 2-1.

The goal calmed nerves and allowed a clear domain Uruguay during the first 25 minutes.
Tabarez is a team of well-armed, in which Diego Forlan is the leader, the star and Luis Suarez outstanding disciple. Buenos squires are Cavani and Alvaro Pereira, Diego Perez and multiplies throughout the midfield, in a generous physical effort. I liked Uruguay vs South Korea very much.

In Asia, Park Ji-Sung of Manchester United is the most important player, by quality and experience. After the first half hour, followed the sometimes dangerous for the Koreans, to four in just five minutes: Kim Jung-Woo, Park Chu-Young in two situations and Cha Du-Ri in two other field tilted in his favor by shooting medium and long distance got in trouble at the Cup. After Uruguay vs South Korea 2-1 Uruguay is the first team who pass the knockout stage.

In the 40th minute, the combo led by Tabarez claimed a penalty for possible hand in the area of a Korean defense.
The second half started as the first had ended. South Korea’s domain with some good chances. Uruguay lost control of the ball and was not able to spin moves. Uruguay vs South Korea ended 2-1.

South Korea insisted on the flanks, especially right through Park Ji-Sung, omnipresent in the team’s offensive game. In the 58th minute he headed a good move that forced Muslera to shine.
Little game of Tabárez in the second half, letting the minutes and playing on the edge of the rules on occasion. I liked Uruguay vs South Korea very much.

And what happened was that everybody was going to happen: South Korea equalized in the 67th minute with a header from Lee Chung Yong.

The goal spurred Uruguay who threw the rest and had the fortune (or the quality and know-how) required in a playoff.

Luis Suarez scored a goal masterclass by the square of the goal of South Korea to give rooms to go to Uruguay.

The Galapagos Islands

SCHOOLCHILDREN around the world know that Charles Darwin was inspired to devise his theory of evolution on a visit in 1835 to the Galapagos Islands, 1,000km (600 miles) off South America’s Pacific coast. Rather fewer may be aware that the tourists retracing his footsteps threaten to destroy the archipelago’s unique ecosystem.

Humans left their mark on the Galapagos even before Darwin turned up. Whalers slaughtered the giant tortoises, and the few settlers brought rats, cats and goats, which crowded out local flora and fauna. Yet the pace of depredation has picked up rapidly over the past three decades, as tourist visits have increased 14-fold to over 160,000 a year.

The tourists are partly responsible for invasive species that threaten endemic wildlife. The hundreds of thousands of chicks that are brought to the islands to feed humans transmit avian diseases to native birds. Parasitic fly larvae began attacking hatchlings of the Darwin finch a few years ago. Wild birds have caught the canary pox virus, and penguins have been stricken by avian malaria. In some cases the damage is more direct. Taxis are a particular hazard. One study found that the average Galapagos car runs over seven birds a year.

When tourism was more limited, fishing by settlers from the mainland was the main threat. The sea cucumber was hunted nearly to extinction. Many fisherman have since set up as unlicensed tourist operators. Some 40 small craft carry thousands of visitors a month on unregulated tours.

Around 95% of the islands’ original species survive. But in some cases, only just. There are merely 71 remaining specimens of Scalesia affinis, a small tree with white, daisy-like flowers, on Santa Cruz island. Many are close to an area that is being built up.

Saving the Galapagos requires action by Ecuador’s government. It has imposed new controls on immigration and imported goods, and last month reintroduced giant tortoises to Pinta island. But a deeper commitment to conservation will cost money. It would take $2.25m to rid Santiago island of invasive blackberries, for instance. Ecuador also has no plans to cap the tourist trade, which is worth $500m a year. It is even planning a new airport that could triple the number of visitors to the archipelago. Paradoxically, if word spreads of the islands’ deterioration, even more tourists may feel moved to visit them before it is too late.

Steve Winwood will be joining Eric Clapton at the Crossroads Guitar Festival next weekend at Toyota Park, aiming to reprise his terrific performance on that same stage in 2007.

It marks the resumption of one of the ‘60s most promising musical partnerships, a partnership that Clapton feels was undone prematurely by his decision to walk away from Blind Faith in 1969.

Winwood and Clapton were friends during the British rock heyday of the ‘60s, including a studio collaboration in 1966 as Powerhouse, before forming Blind Faith with ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker and bassist Ric Grech. Winwood was only 21, yet already a seasoned rock veteran with stints in the Spencer Davis Group and Traffic. Clapton was 24, and coming off the break-up of Cream. Both musicians were looking for a fresh start and an opportunity to do some lower key music, but those plans were quickly undone when the “supergroup” was booked for a stadium tour that left the musicians demoralized. Clapton walked away and he and Winwood went on to hugely successful solo careers. They wouldn’t reconnect musically until 2007, following up with a successful tour in 2009.

In an interview, Winwood recounts his early days with Clapton and the long road to playing again with his old running mate:

Q: What got you back together with Clapton at Crossroads in 2007?

A: It was not one of those corporate ideas, which happened all too often in our career. Since we’d worked together in the ‘60s in Blind Faith, our paths crossed from time to time, but we had drifted apart. Then Eric asked me to do the 2007 Crossroads, and then we also did another charity event just prior to that in England, one of those things that highlights rural issues. I live in a rural area in England, so that issue was close to my heart, and Eric was involved in that too. At that event, he played with my band and there was a great difference between working with him now and the ‘60s. Back then he didn’t want to sing when I played with him, and he didn’t want to or wasn’t able to be a band leader. Now he’s a great singer and a great band leader, and it makes it more fun and interesting for me. We talk about how the band is working, we work on things where we sing together, the way our voices go together, so it’s a considerable step beyond where we were then.

Q: One thing that a lot of people at Crossroads 2007 didn’t realize is what a fine guitar player you are. Your solo on “Dear Mr. Fantasy” was a real highlight. Yet people still associate you mostly with keyboards and the Hammond organ. Did you learn guitar alongside keyboards when you were growing up?

A: I actually started to play piano early on. In the ‘50s if you played piano in bands, you’d be in a club – though they were really pubs – and they had notoriously bad pianos. Early on I just got tired of trying to play those old pianos, so I started to play guitar. My brother Muff, who is five years older than me, used to play guitar and I’d borrow his. Of course, I started to get together with my contemporaries, Eric included, who got intensively interested in the blues music filtering over from across the Atlantic, Chicago in particular. We found this to be the likes of something we’d never heard, and we just got obsessed with it and playing like these blues guitarists we were hearing.

Q: You backed up some of those blues artists when they came over to England in the mid-‘60s, right?

A: Yes, quite a few of them: John Lee Hooker, T Bone Walker, Sonny Boy Williamson, Champion Jack Dupree. They’d use local pick-up bands when they came over to England because they couldn’t afford to fly over their own bands. I played mainly guitar – we’re talking about the early to mid-‘60s. It wasn’t until 1966, ‘67 that I got hold of a Hammond organ, which changed things considerably for me. It was a big breakthrough for me. Finally I could play a keyboard and not be stuck behind an old pub piano. The piano wasn’t the ideal rock ‘n’ roll instrument – though people like Jerry Lee Lewis and Fats Domino did just fine with it – but the Hammond organ was.

Q: Was it nerve-racking backing those blues musicians you idolized at shows?

A: In many ways it was very overwhelming for a teenage kid like me from Birmingham. Looking back, though, I realize it must’ve been quite overwhelming for these artists coming over as well. Although they were veterans of blues, they hadn’t really played outside their sphere of juke joints and Chicago clubs, really. For them to come to Europe was quite a big step. It must have been overwhelming for them as it was for me. It was wonderful to play with them. Some were helpful, some not. Some talkative, some weren’t. I definitely remember Memphis Slim really helping me with my guitar playing. Many of these guys who were reticent, like Sonny Boy Williamson and John Lee Hooker, I think it was perhaps they were just so used to the same guys playing with them, they didn’t really know what the guys playing with them should be doing. I don’t think they were deliberately unhelpful, they just didn’t know what to say to us. It’s amazing the chemistry, the level of playing you heard on those blues records. Now I’ve listened to and learned from many of these people who backed up these people like Phil Upchurch, these great players on many of the Chess and Vee Jay recordings. And for us -- Eric and I have spoken about this many times in recent years -- in those days you’d listen to those records and it was just as important to know the musicians who played on the record as the man singing or the name on the record. It was important for us enthusiasts and devotees to know who were accompanying these giant figures. We all knew that Hubert Sumlin was the guitarist on Howlin’ Wolf records, even though he was not mentioned on the sleeve notes. We knew their names, and we studied what they played.

Q: How did you get together with Clapton for the Powerhouse session in 1966?

A: We were quite friendly by then. Eric’s a couple years older, and at our age now that means nothing, but when I was 16 and he was 18, 19, it was a big difference. I just moved from Birmingham to London and I lived in lodgings in the suburbs, and Eric had a wonderful bohemian flat in a cool part of the city, so I’d go and hang out with him. He took me under his wing in many respects. He introduced me to his friends, and we’d play and talk about records. The whole conversation revolved around music. When we met, he was playing with the Yardbirds and then John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers and I was in the Spencer Davis Group. In those days we’d play on the same bill a lot. If we weren’t we’d see each other traveling between the clubs we all used to play at. The Powerhouse was put together by (producer) Joe Boyd, I think it was some sort of sampler for a new label. Eric was there, and I sang. We recorded a bunch of songs in a day. In those days we would make records in a day, entire albums in a day. We’d do side one before lunch, break, and then do side two.

Q: Clapton says he wanted to play with you again in part because he felt that he let everyone down by leaving Blind Faith and that the music deserved to be heard again. What's your take on that?

A: Eric takes a lot of this on himself. The band sort of fell apart a bit. Eric may be a bit hard on himself in saying he walked away. It was drifting apart anyway. The record we did was good. It stands the test of time. It was a great thing we put together. The problem arose when we went on the road and the pressure came from several areas. One was from the business side of it, where the idea of a large amount of money being made was incentive to put us in certain kinds of (oversized) places to play. The record we made with Blind faith was slightly more on the mellow side than things had been with Cream. There was a certain mellowness which didn’t go down as well with audiences who hadn’t heard that music then. Now you might say “Can’t Find My Way Home” or “Presence of the Lord” are classic rock songs, but at that point in 1969 nobody had heard them before. The audience wanted to hear heavy arena rock, and they got this slightly tinkling folkie stuff --- which didn’t always work in an arena. Eric was probably going through some changes, where he didn’t particularly know what he wanted to do, and so was I. All those things added up. It was an inevitability that it didn’t go further. But it’s great now to revisit that material because it’s held up pretty well over 40 years.

Q: You also backed up another Crossroads guitarist, B.B. King, when he came to England to record in the ‘70s. What do you recall about that session?

A: A fantastic recording session. I hope you’re not going to ask me what record. Oh, wait, it was “B.B. King in London” (1971). B.B. could not have been nicer, just an absolute gentleman, very personable, modest. He was a great blues musician, but he made us feel at ease, like peers. One thing I vividly remember with his guitar playing, it didn’t matter what chords the musicians put underneath him, he made it sound great – and different. He had a certain way of transcending the chord changes, putting in his own things. Some of the blues musicians, the more rustic ones, are known for adding bars and beats here and there. But B.B. wasn’t like that. He was a great musician, but he still very much had his own style, his own way of voicing things. It was clear even then why he was so revered.

Tropical Storm Alex

MIAMI — Tropical Storm Alex formed in the western Caribbean on Saturday, and forecasters said it was unclear if it would hit the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said early Saturday that the storm has maximum sustained winds of about 45 mph. Most storm models show Alex traveling over the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico over the weekend, hurricane forecaster Jack Bevens said.

Bevens noted it's too soon to say with certainty if the storm will pass over the oiled Gulf, though for now it's not expected to hit the spill. A storm's predicted track can quickly change as conditions shift.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the coast of Belize and the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, which separates the Caribbean Sea from the Gulf of Mexico.

Somewhere between 69 million and 132 million gallons of crude have spewed into the water since the rig Deepwater Horizon exploded April 20, killing 11 workers.

The storm raises concerns over what might happen to efforts to contain the oil if BP is forced to abandon the area for a while. An armada of ships is working in the Gulf.

A cap has been placed over the blown-out undersea well and it is carrying some of the oil to a surface ship where it is being collected. Some of the oil is being brought to the surface and burned. Other ships are drilling two relief wells, projected to be done by August, and are the best hope to stop the leak.

Forecasters have said they can't speculate about what rough weather would do to oil in the water.

The tropical storm is on track to reach the peninsula by late Saturday. It is about 140 miles east of Belize City and about 165 miles east-southeast of the Mexican city Chetumal. It was moving toward the west-northwest at about 9 mph.

Meanwhile in the Pacific, two major hurricanes are swirling but don't pose an immediate threat to land. Darby was a Category 2 storm on Saturday, with maximum sustained winds near 110 mph.

The hurricane is about 310 miles south-southwest of Zihuatanejo, Mexico. It's heading west near 3 mph (6 kph).

Hurricane Celia weakened Saturday to a Category 1 storm farther out in the Pacific. Celia's maximum sustained winds have decreased to 90 mph. It is about 910 miles (1,460 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. The hurricane center says Celia is approaching cooler waters and is expected to continue weakening.

Solar Eclipse on July 11

A Solar Eclipse is expected to be visible over the east islands. The visibility of the solar eclipse is expected to be almost 100% because of the location of the east islands. It is expected that it the eclipse could also be observed from areas near the east islands.

The 11th July solar eclipse may not be completely visible in some other parts of the world but the lack of sunlight without cloud-coverage may be observed in some areas. This is be3cause of the fact that part of the sun would be covered and there would be a difference of sunlight because of that but it may not entirely mean that an eclipse would be seen. With use of special equipment that star gazers may use to stare at the sun, it would be observed that a partial or slight eclipse is occurring.

The July 11 eclipse may have something to do with the June 26th lunar eclipse that was also visible in only some areas of the world. It is known that the lunar eclipse was not visible in many Arab countries and that may be the reason why many people are saying that there is no Lunar Eclipse today. A very similar situation is expected with the Solar Eclipse and there may be many reports that the eclipse is not visible at all, but it would be visible. The angle of the eclipse may make it visible to only the east island residents however. In any case it would be quite a sight for everyone witnessing it

SINGAPORE: There was a partial lunar eclipse on Saturday evening. Lasting some three hours, over half the moon was covered by the Earth's shadow.

This is the only lunar eclipse visible in the eastern hemisphere this year and its maximum coverage happened at about 7.30pm.

Over 3,000 people gathered at the Singapore Science Centre's Observatory to catch the natural spectacle.

Telescopes were available for the public and astronomy buffs.

And with snacks, talks and buskers, the moon-gazing took on a celebratory atmosphere.

One visitor said: "It is an opportunity that comes once a year and even though we're not science buffs we're very interested in this phenomena."

"I like all these natural things so I just brought my child to expose him to these kind of things," said one parent.

A lunar eclipse occurs at the Full Moon phase of the lunar cycle.

Kalaimani Retnasamy, honorary secretary, The Astronomical Society of Singapore, said: "The moon goes around the Earth and when it goes behind the earth there should, theoretically, be a lunar eclipse but - no - the moon is going around the earth on a slightly tilted orbit - so this is not a monthly occurrence but once or twice or thrice a year.

Tropical Storm Alex strengthens

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The first Tropical Depression of the Atlantic hurricane season has strengthened to become the first named storm of the season. Tropical Depression One formed off the Honduran coast Friday afternoon and became better organized overnight. The newly-named Tropical Storm Alex is likely to slowly strengthen before making landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula. Tropical Storm Warnings are posted for the east coast of the Yucatan peninsula. The storm is expected to move into the Gulf over the next few days. Concerns linger over the impacts of the storm on ongoing oil spill clean-up efforts. However, the storm is expected to remain in the western Gulf of Mexico. Alex is the first name on the 6 year rotating list of names for the Atlantic hurricane basin. Storms are named after the maximum sustained winds reach 39 mph or higher.

Avatar The Last Airbender Season 4

Airbender Season 4: The Last Airbender (also known as Avatar: The Legend of Aang in several countries) is an Emmy award-winning American animated television series that airs on the Nickelodeon television network and on Nicktoons Network. We’re still in the middle of season three. Last episode broadcast in America was the two parter “day of black sun”. But the following two episodes are out on the net at the website below.
The rest of the season should continue shortly with Avatar Season 4 starting next sept/oct.
“Talks are reportedly underway to extend the show beyond just three seasons, which was the original plan by the creators. However, if there is a fourth season, it will likely follow a different storyline other than the Fire Lord and Fire Nation trying to take over the world, as both Nick executives and the co-creators have said season three will be when Aang faces the Fire Lord.”
The Avatar Season 4 is set in an Asian-influenced world of martial arts and elemental manipulation; the series follows the adventures of Aang and his friends, who try to save the world from war with the Fire Nation. The show’s protagonist Aang is trapped in an iceberg when he is found by two members of the Southern Water Tribe, Katara and Sokka. After being freed from the iceberg, Katara and Sokka join Aang on a long journey across the globe; their ultimate goal is to help Aang acquire the skills to defeat the Fire Lord and end the war.[4] In the series’ terminology, each episode is referred to as a “chapter”, and each season as a “book.”
It made its debut on February 21, 2005, and the last episodes were screened on July 19, 2008; it is now available on DVD, the iTunes Store, and the Xbox Live Marketplace, as well as its home on Nickelodeon. Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko co-created the series, and serve as executive producers alongside Aaron Ehasz. Avatar: The Last Airbender is popular with both audiences and critics, garnering 4.4 million viewers on its best-rated showing and receiving high ratings in the Nicktoons lineup, even outside its 6–11-year-old demographic. The series’ success prompted Nickelodeon to order second and third[9] seasons. Merchandise based on the series include scaled action figures, a trading card game, three video games based on the first, second, and third seasons, stuffed animals distributed by Paramount Parks, and two LEGO sets.
